Together with Columbia University School of the Arts and The Studio Museum in Harlem, PEN World Voices presented an uptown, pop-up installment of POEMobile, a hand-painted truck that projects poems onto buildings and underscores them with music and live performances. Co-produced by City Lore and Bowery Arts + Science, the POEMobile made its way to 125th Street, bringing poetry to life in the Museum’s courtyard and atrium. The evening’s performances showcased a new box set of twelve African poetry chapbooks edited by Chris Abani and Kwame Dawes and published by Akashic Books. Bob Holman served as Master of Ceremonies and performers included The Mighty Third Rail, Toni Blackman, Mo Beasley, Salieu Suso, and Mykela Moore and Fernando Garcia of Youth Stand of Brooklyn Community Services/Coney Island.
