[WEBINAR] Know Your Rights: A Legal Training on Protest & Free Expression

Basic democratic rights have increasingly come under siege, from attacks on free expression in our streets, our state capitols, and our courtrooms. Join PEN America’s Nora Benavidez, director of U.S. free expression programs and First Amendment lawyer, for an interactive “know your rights” training, presented in partnership with the New York City Literary Action Coalition.

This training will include a review of your constitutional rights, what to do if you get arrested, how to preserve your legal claims in the event your rights are violated, and other legal issues when dealing with various law enforcement agencies.

We will also provide updates on PEN America’s research on protest rights, including the proliferation of state-level legislative proposals seeking to limit protest rights. We will provide time for discussion on ways the network may defend against these problematic, often unconstitutional, legislative proposals in New York. We will also save time for Q&A.
