Warsame Shire Awale

Awale, a Somali poet, playwright, and journalist, was shot in Mogadishu in October 2012 after receiving threats for his work and critical views on Al-Shabaab, a militant islamist group based in Somalia. Despite the circumstances surrounding his death, no one has been arrested or prosecuted for his killing, and investigations into the case have not led to any known legal action or resolution. It is widely believed that the militant group is responsible for his death.
