Vafa Ahmadpour

Ahmadpour is a rapper whose work engages with political themes. On February 4, 2024, he turned himself in to the authorities after a year spent in hiding. He had received threats from the authorities after he dedicated works to fallen protesters. He was temporarily released on bail after two weeks. He was summoned to court in April and sentenced to a year in prison for “propaganda.” He was arrested in May after releasing the music video for a politically charged song. He was released in January 2025. In February, he began nine months of house arrest on new charges.
