Blogger Ramzy Razeek was arrested on April 2, 2020 after posting on Facebook regarding the need for an “ideological jihad” to stop organized anti-Muslim propaganda. In response, he and his family faced death threats. After reporting the harassment to the police, he was arrested at his home. After five months of detention, Razeek was released on bail, but still faces up to ten years in prison as the case is not yet closed. In September 2023, the Sri Lankan Supreme Court ruled that Razeek’s rights had been violated and ordered the State to pay him damages.
