In 2017, musician Josep Miquel Arenas Beltrán, also known as “Valtònyc,” was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for insulting the crown, “glorification of terrorism,” and “threats,” for a song that targeted the nationalist group Circulo Balear. In 2018, he fled to Belgium, and while Spain demanded his extradition, a Belgian court ruled against it. Beltrán returned to Spain in October 2023, and in December, a court sentenced him to another two years in prison. After striking a agreement with the police where he apologized and paid a fine, he will likely not serve the sentence.
