Writer and human rights activist Navlakha was one of many writers and activists arrested for “inciting caste violence” in the village of Bhima Koregaon in August 2018. He was released from house arrest in October 2018 but was again taken into custody in April 2020. He was repeatedly denied bail until November 2022, when he was finally granted temporary bail to address health issues worsened by being in prison.
