Since August 2020, Arnon Nampa has been arrested and released on bail several times for his speeches at peaceful protests. In February 2021, he was remanded for violating lèse-majesté laws, sedition, and other charges until he was conditionally released in June. Re-arrested in August 2023, Nampa was sentenced to four years in prison for his activism and an additional four years for his speech.
