Susan Bernofsky

 

Susan Bernofsky directs the literary translation program in the School of the Arts MFA Writing Program at Columbia University. She has translated over twenty books, including seven by the great Swiss-German modernist author Robert Walser, Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, Hesse’s Siddhartha, and most recently The End of Days by Jenny Erpenbeck. Her awards include the 2015 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize, the 2015 Oxford Weidenfeld Translation Prize, the 2015 Ungar German Translation Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator’s Prize, and the 2012 Calw Hermann Hesse Translation Prize.
