Edad Mercier

Edad Mercier is a doctoral candidate in World History at St. John’s University in New York City and an Adjunct Professor of History. She is also a Visiting Fellow with the Institute for Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES), where she works with scholars and students in the humanities and social sciences on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Edad is fluent in French and Haitian Creole and interested in humanitarian interpretation and translation in the Caribbean and Africa. Her other areas of interest include urbanization and immigration; international development; sociocultural anthropology; museum and cultural heritage studies; anticolonial histories and literatures. As a Free Expression Leadership Fellow, Edad plans to research topics connected to First Amendment litigation in the United States, religious speech, and academic freedom.
