Bart Friedman

Bart Friedman is Senior Counsel at Cahill Gordon & Reindel LLP. Bart has served (or is currently serving) on four Corporate Boards as either Lead Independent Director or Chairman, across four different industries (Biotech (NY), Insurance (Zug, Switzerland), Finance (NY) and the Food Service Industry (Pittsburgh) and has represented numerous corporate Boards in the Fortune 500, including two in the Fortune 10. He has also represented significant non-profit organizations, as well as a global multilateral institution. Bart has also served or is currently serving on the Boards of over a dozen NGOs including The Brookings Institution (Audit Committee Chair), Lincoln Center (Audit Committee Chair), The Juilliard School (Board Vice-Chair), Harvard’s Graduate School of Education (Visiting Committee), Guggenheim’s Works and Process (Board Chair) and as a member of the Membership Committee of the Council on Foreign Relations. He graduated from Harvard Law School and spent a year on the Research Faculty of Harvard Business School before joining Cahill Gordon. He is married to the Art Historian Wendy A. Stein and has two grown sons, Benjamin and Jacob. He joined the PEN America board in 2022.
