Broken Dreams in Two Acts: 25 Years since the Fall of the Berlin Wall

In 1989, the Berlin Wall fell with jubilance and chaos, bringing in a new era. But much as the demolition of the wall itself stretched into the subsequent years to come, so has the tough work of rebuilding Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union. To mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Wall, writers and scholars discuss what happened, what they wish had happened, and what might yet happen. In Act I, renowned scholar Timothy Garton Ash speaks about the realities and possibilities from this corner of the world. In Act II vhe is joined by a group of peers responding to his remarks. He will debate the grammar of our title, specifically on whether to use a question mark to punctuate its end.
