Nancy Kates produced and directed the HBO documentary feature Regarding Susan Sontag, which premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival, where it received a Special Jury Mention and great critical response. Ms. magazine named it one of the top ten feminist films of 2014. Kates produced and directed Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin with Bennett Singer, which premiered in 2003 at Sundance and on the PBS series POV. The film received the 2004 GLAAD Media Award, among other honors. In 2014, Kates was named to the Out100, Out magazine’s annual list of the most intriguing LGBT Americans.
