Joe Jackson is the author of one novel and seven works of nonfiction, including Black Elk: The Life of an American Visionary, winner of the PEN/Jacqueline Bograd Weld Award and the Society of American Historians’ Francis Parkman Prize. He was an investigative reporter for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot and the Mina Hohenberg Darden Endowed Chair of Creative Writing at Old Dominion University. His next book, Liberators, will be released in September 2025 by publisher Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
