Emma Pettit is a senior reporter with The Chronicle of Higher Education who covers how politics – specifically political groups, agendas, and ideas – appear on college campuses today. She writes frequently about academic freedom and free speech matters. In 2022, she was an Education Writers Association reporting fellow. Her resulting article series examined the actions of the Johns Committee, a State of Florida investigative body that, in the 1950s and 1960s, persecuted gay professors and students, as well as threatened the academic freedom and institutional autonomy of Florida universities.
