(New York, NY) – The Trump campaign today asked CNN to retract and apologize for a poll showing the president’s dropping poll numbers. PEN America’s senior director of free expression programs Summer Lopez said the following:
“Attempting to discredit and even erase reporting on polling information in the midst of an election is a disgraceful new low, even for the Trump campaign. The campaign already has a track record of trying to shut down any information that might reflect poorly on the president, but this is not just an attack on CNN’s freedom to report or the public’s right to know – it’s an attempt to undermine public trust in election-related information and thereby stoke doubt in the electoral process. The absurdity of this request should not distract from the danger to the democratic process that it represents.”
