(New York, NY) — PEN America today celebrates the news that poet and PEN America Literary Award recipient Louise Glück has won the 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature.
PEN America Trustee and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gregory Pardlo said:
“Louise Glück’s poetry helps lead us out of the fog of what Emerson called ‘mean egotism.’ By honoring her, the Nobel Prize Committee honors the integrity her work models at a moment when it is most necessary.”
Clarisse Rosaz Shariyf, PEN America’s senior director of literary programs, said:
“It is a wonderful day to celebrate the beauty and power of poetry to remind us what it means to simply be human in times like these. Congratulations to Louise Glück, one of our great contemporary American poets, as dedicated to her craft as she is to teaching the next generation.”
