Michael Imperioli of the HBO series “The Sopranos” has made his film directing debut with a movie based on another HBO series, “The Hungry Ghosts,” The Associated Press reported. Ticket sales for a screening next Tuesday at the Rubin Museum of Art in Chelsea will benefit Tibetan refugees and elderly Buddhist monks. “Buddhism is an antidote to the characters in the film,” who are “desirous of something spiritual,” said Mr. Imperioli, above. His former “Sopranos” colleagues Steve Schirripa and Sharon Angela star in the ensemble drama. … The PEN American Center has announced the winners of the 2009 Beyond Margins Award, which honors outstanding books by minority writers. Uwem Akpan (“Say You’re One of Them”), Juan Felipe Herrera (“Half of the World in Light: New and Selected Poems”) and Lily Hoang (“Changing”) are each to receive a $1,000 award at a celebration hosted by the National Book Critics Circle president, Jane Ciabattari, on Dec. 2 at the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe in SoHo.
