PEN America Code of Conduct for Events

We aim for our events to stimulate robust dialogue and debate, and to foster environments where authors and attendees from diverse backgrounds feel free to speak their minds. We welcome respectful debate, critique, and disagreement.

Harassment and abuse, however, are antithetical to free expression and undermine open exchange; as such, we are committed to ensuring our events are free of such behavior.

Harassment and abuse include, but are not limited to: stalking, verbal or physical intimidation, and hateful speech that targets people based on their race, ethnicity, ability, gender, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status, nation of origin, physical appearance, age, or class.

If your behavior is abusive, we retain the right to remove you from the auditorium. We appreciate you respecting and abiding by this code of conduct.
