PEN Presents: Quarter Life Poetry

PEN America and NeueHouse Hollywood present Quarter Life Poetry’s creator, writer, and star Samantha Jayne in conversation with co-creator and director Arturo Perez Jr. to discuss the translation of storytelling from social media to book to television. Moderated by Rebecca Sun (The Hollywood Reporter). Based on Samantha Jayne’s viral Instagram and Tumblr account @QuarterLifePoetry, Quarter Life Poetry will debut on FX this spring.

The event will include a conversation and question-and-answer session with the audience. A cocktail reception with a cash bar and book signing with Book Soup will follow.

Samantha Jayne is the writer and actress of Quarter Life Poetry. She’s also the author of Quarter Life Poetry: Poems for the Young, Broke & Hangry, which has sold around the world. Through her work, Jayne hopes to connect with others and facilitate dialogue about silent struggles like anxiety.

Arturo Perez Jr. is a film and music video director. He is one of the pioneer directors of La Blogotheque—a web project that creates unconventional music videos with the world’s top musicians. He was nominated as best director at the 2018 MTV VMAs for his music video for Justin Timberlake’s “Say Something.” He has collaborated with Paul McCartney, The Killers, The Lumineers, and Edward Sharpe.

Rebecca SunRebecca Sun is a senior reporter at The Hollywood Reporter, where she covers the business of entertainment and writes about inclusion and representation in media.
