Date: Monday, April 5, 2021
Time: 8:00pm ET / 5:00pm PT
Location: Zoom
Donation to Attend: $125 per person

Join us for a special conversation with director Ramin Bahrani on his recent film The White Tiger, now available on Netflix.

An expert adaptation of the 2008 novel of the same name by Aravind Adiga, Bahrani’s creative vision and direction are in full force in The White Tiger, earning him a nomination for the 2021 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. A rejection of the glorified portrayals of poverty on display in films like Slumdog Millionaire, Bahrani’s adaptation is part satire and part melodrama, a crime-tinged rags-to-riches parable that uses the story of his protagonist’s improbable rise to confront the iniquities of the society that created him. In his indictment of economic exploitation and India’s caste system, Bahrani delivers a thoroughly entertaining and exciting film. We are honored to be joined by Bahrani to discuss his work, the art of the film adaptation, and the power of storytelling as a social magnifying glass.

A $125 donation is required to attend this very special evening. This donation is considered 100 percent tax-deductible and supports PEN America’s mission to defend writers and free expression at a time of unprecedented need. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
