PEN America Virtual Author’s Evening with Darren Walker and Claudia Rankine

Headshots of Claudia Rankine and Darren Walker

Date: Monday, January 25
Time: 7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT
Location: Zoom
Donation to Attend: $150 per person

Join us for a special conversation with Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, and Claudia Rankine, award-winning poet, essayist, and playwright, on her latest book Just Us: An American Conversation. The evening is generously sponsored by Tom Healy.

Just Us, finalist for the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Non-Fiction, is a brilliant arrangement of essays, poems, and images alongside fact-checked notes and commentary which speaks to a power dynamic that is both widely accepted and still very much at play in America today. Through only observation, not prescription or recommendation, Rankine discovers and recounts her confrontations with whiteness and prejudice. Together, Rankine and Walker will discuss this Just Us and this divisive moment in American history in the hopes that we can process our way into a more hopeful, inclusive future.

A $150 donation is required to attend this very special evening. This donation is considered 100 percent tax-deductible and supports PEN America’s mission to defend writers and free expression at a time of unprecedented need. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
