David Bellos, the eminent translation scholar, brilliant translator of Georges Perec, and runner-up for this year’s PEN Translation Prize will be speaking this Thursday, October 13 at McNally Jackson Books as part of the Bridge Series, a wonderful reading and discussion series devoted to literary translation. Bellos has just published a new book about translation that he has entitled, with characteristic humility, Is That a Fish in Your Ear?: Translation and the Meaning of Everything. I for one am eager to learn about the meaning of everything. Bellos is one of the most entertaining speakers I’ve ever heard, and he also knows a tremendous amount about translation and the history of language. For more details about the event, see my blog post on Translationista. Meanwhile, hope to see you there: at McNally Jackson, Thursday, Oct. 13, 7:00 p.m.
