Vincent Kling is professor emeritus of German and French at La Salle University. He has published essays on various Austrian authors, on Laurent Binet, on Anthony Hecht, on Ernst Krenek, on crime and detective fiction, and on the craft of translation. He has translated works by Wilhelm Hauff, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Heimito von Doderer, Aglaja Veteranyi, Gerhard Fritsch, Heimrad Bäcker, Gert Jonke, Werner Kofler, Andreas Pittler, Engelbert Pfeiffer, and Richard Dehmel. He was awarded the Schlegel-Tieck Prize for his translation of Veteranyi’s Why the Child Is Cooking in the Polenta and the Helen and Kurt Wolff Prize for his translation of Heimito von Doderer’s The Strudlhof Steps. He lives in Philadelphia and Vienna.
