Sergio Ramírez, author of over thirty novels, memoirs, and story and essay collections, is one of Latin America’s most important literary figures. In addition to his masterwork Castigo divino (Divine Punishment), his works include Margarita, está linda la mar (Margarita, How Beautiful the Sea) and Mil y una muertes (A Thousand Deaths Plus One). Ramírez also served as the vice president of Nicaragua from 1985 to 1990. In 2014 he was awarded the prestigious Carlos Fuentes International Prize for Literary Creation in the Spanish Language. He lives in Managua, Nicaragua.
