Documentary filmmaker Min Htin Ko Ko Gyi, formerly detained for nearly a year for criticizing the military in his films and social media posts, was released in February 2020. He was one of the first creative artists to be detained on the first night of the February 1, 2021 military-led coup on charges of incitement. On November 15, 2022, he was released from prison.
