On October 23, 2019, Emre Orman was arrested for his online criticism of Türkiye's invasion of southwestern Kurdistan. He was charged with spreading terrorist propaganda, but was released on appeal on November 5, 2019. Convicted again on February 18, 2020, he received a deferred sentence of 1 year, 6 months, and 22 days in prison. After being released in 2021, Orman was arrested in a police raid on his home and briefly detained in March 2022. In October 2024, he was sentenced to 5 months in prison for “resisting police." The sentence was converted into a fine. In March 2025, his home was raided. He was tried along with a group of other journalists for covering protests. He was acquitted in November 2025.
