Professor, writer, and journalist, Al-Bahili was arrested in April 2020 after tweeting condolences over the death of a prominent Saudi human rights defender. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for ten days and denied any contact with his family, and then was denied access to a lawyer or information about his charges while in detention. He was released in July 2021 without charge.
