Daniel Oestericher is a recent graduate of Yale University, where he studied Global Affairs. Hailing from New York City, he is passionate about human rights, political transitions, and access to justice, especially in post-conflict settings. In college, he was able to explore these interests in positions all over the world, working for the State Department in Istanbul, a peacebuilding NGO in Tel Aviv, and The Reckoning Project, a Kyiv-based nonprofit harnessing the power of journalism to document war crimes in Ukraine. Having spent his senior fall in Madrid, he also completed a thesis on Spain’s exercise of universal jurisdiction and its effect on historical memory movements in Latin America. As a summer fellow, he is especially interested in PEN America’s work to protect writers at risk around the world, which he hopes will inform a future career in human rights law.
