Margo Lowy is a psychotherapist with an interest in mothering and women’s reproductive health. She completed her doctorate and research masters at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, investigating the fields of maternal ambivalence and infertility. Her doctorate, completed in 2017, titled “The Maternal Experience: Encounters with Ambivalence and Love” was followed by a book of the same name which was published by Routledge in 2021. In the book, Dr Lowy disrupts the accepted maternal discourse by insisting that troubling feelings, including hatred, are an inescapable part of most of the mother’s experience, and fuel her love for her child. She is currently writing a more conversational book which refines this work and is aimed at new mothers and those interested in mothering at all stages.
