Ian McEwan reads from a selection from his “pre-fiction,” the writing he does before he produces a novel. This particular piece came out of his attempt to write a novel about global warming and describes the time he spent aboard a ship frozen into a fjord in the North Pole. This event took place at Town Hall Readings: Public Lives/Public Lives, part of the 2008 PEN World Voices Festival.
