Writer and professor Zakaria Osuli wrote a book on a prominent anti-Taliban commander of the Northern Alliance, Ahmad Shah Massoud, who was assassinated by two Al-Qaeda operatives in 2001. He also published another book about the 2020 Doha Agreement, and is known for being an outspoken activist for women’s rights and against unlawful detentions. On January 31, 2023, he arrested on unknown charges. Two months later, on April 10, 2023, Osuli was released.
