Tran Duc Thach was arrested on April 23, 2020 and charged with “activities aimed at overthrowing the People’s Government” for his Facebook posts on government corruption and human rights abuses. In December 15, 2020, he was ultimately sentenced to 12 years in prison for subversion, which was upheld in his appeal marred by legal injustices. Thach has previously served three years in prison for writing articles.
