Piątek, a Polish journalist and author, has faced significant harassment due to his investigative work. He is best known for his book, Macierewicz and the Military, which exposed alleged ties between Antoni Macierewicz (Poland’s former Minister of National Defence) and Russian interests. In 2017, Piątek was sued by Macierewicz for defamation in connection with his book, which led to legal battles and threats of imprisonment. In 2019, the case was dismissed. As of February 2025, however, he is still on trial on suspicion of threatening a public official, which he has denied.
