In June 2024, journalist Timur Soykan was sued by New Zealand drug lord Duax Ngakuru, who claimed Soykan’s book Baron Invasion damaged his honor and demanded 350,000 TL and its withdrawal. That same day, authorities blocked access to Soykan’s related reporting. A separate trial over two articles began in December. He was briefly detained in April 2025 for “threat” and “blackmail,” and again in July for a social media post, then released on probation. In September, he faced a new criminal case for "disseminating misleading information." In April 2026, he was given a suspended sentence of 10 months in prison for "violation of privacy."
