Rung Sila was detained for writing a poem deemed offensive to the monarchy and faced up to 45 years in prison under the lèse-majesté law. He was granted bail in 2019 after spending nearly five years in pretrial detention. He was eventually given a 4.5-year sentence and quickly released because he had already spent 4 years and 11 months in pretrial detention following his arrest on June 1, 2014, making additional incarceration unnecessary according to the court's final decision.
