Turkish Armenian writer Sevan Nişanyan was imprisoned in 2012 for a blog entry he wrote criticizing government attempts to ban criticism of the Prophet Muhammad. However, in July 2017, he escaped from prison and established political asylum in Greece. He was detained in 2021 due to residency issues and released on January 7, 2022. He moved to Armenia in January 2022.
