Turkish journalist Sedef Kabas has faced multiple trials for “insulting the president” based on her social media posts and TV commentary. She was arrested on January 22, 2022, for remarks made on a TV show and temporarily released in February. In March 2022, she was sentenced to two years and four months but released pending appeal. A new case was opened on June 22, 2023, for her tweets, and her trial has been repeatedly postponed. The latest hearing on February 25, 2025, was rescheduled for June 19, 2025. Her lawyer challenged the judge’s impartiality, but dismissal requests were denied.
