Al-Haidar was arrested without charge in a wave of arrests in April 2019. While in detention, he has been denied access to a lawyer. He is the son of a prominent Saudi feminist facing trial, who was released from prison two weeks before he was detained. He was conditionally released in 2021 but is still facing trial.
