While exiled in the UK, Saied Al-Ghamdi has faced retaliation for his writing through the imprisonment of his brothers. One of them, Mohammed, was arrested on June 11, 2022 and sentenced to death on July 10, 2024. In August 2024, his sentence was repealed and a verdict of 30 years imprisonment was issued instead. Al-Ghamdi’s other brother, Assad, was arrested on November 20, 2022 and held incommunicado for two months. He was convicted of spreading false news and defaming the King and Crown Prince, and sentenced to 15 years in prison in October 2024. He was released on February, 14, 2025.
