S. Hareesh, an Indian writer, began receiving threats in 2018 after an excerpt from his serialized novel Meesha (Moustache) was taken out of context and condemned widely on social media as offensive to Hindu women and priests. As a result, Hareesh suspended serialization of the book. After being translated into English and published by HarperCollins under the title “Moustache” in January 2020, the book won the JCB Prize for Literature.
