A poet and board member of the Iranian Writers Association (IWA), Sohani was arrested at his home on December 5, 2022. He was released on a 600 million tomans bail on December 26, 2022. Authorities broke into his home and took him to an unknown location before arresting fellow poet Aida Amidi hours later. Legal proceedings were paused in February 2023, with no court date announced. He had been awaiting formal charges, and the IWA reported uncertainty about the status of his case.
