Taği, a journalist and writer, died in 2011 days after a stabbing in Baku, possibly linked to his article critical of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, published a week earlier. In 2015, the prosecutor halted the investigation, despite doubts about its thoroughness. Taği authored many books including Yanaşı Ulduzlar (The Stars Next to Us). It is unclear if anyone had been indicted for his murder. In 2020, his family appealed to Azerbaijani authorities to reopen the case.
