In August 2020, the Supreme Court fined lawyer and author Prashant Bhushan one rupee for two tweets critical of the Court, convicting him of “contempt of court.” Bhushan paid the fine but sought to appeal the conviction. He was later targeted by new investigations and attempts at reprimands from the Bar Council in 2021 and 2022. Despite these challenges, Bhushan remained active and continued to be a vocal critic in the following years.
