Poet and activist Farhangian was first arrested in June 2020. He was initially sentenced to 38 years in prison on charged related to his commentary and creating a Telegram group. He was released but rearrested the next year, then released on bail. In November 2023, he was sentenced to a year in prison for “propaganda.” He began his sentence in January 2024. In September 2024, his sentence was changed to penal servitude for “propaganda,” “insulting sacred things,” “insulting the leader,” and “conspiracy against national security.”
