In November 2022, Niang was arrested after a video was released on Dakar Matin in which he reported the contents of an internal gendarmerie report. He was released on bail on December 14, but detained on December 20 after speaking about the case publicly. He went on hunger strike until he was released on January 10, 2023. His release is conditional, continuing to ban him from travel and speaking about the case.
