Nguyen Van Lam

Nguyen Van Lam was sentenced to nine years in prison on charges of “making, storing and spreading information, materials, items for the purpose of opposing the State of Socialist Republic of Vietnam” under Article 117 of the Criminal Code. Nguyen had been using his Facebook account with 5k followers to post criticism of the local government of Nghe An Province and also the central government. He had previously been summoned and warned by authorities, but continued reposting critical content despite surveillance and takedowns.
