Nguyen Lan Thang has written commentary on current events in Vietnam and around the world, history, and philosophy via his blog on Radio Free Asia since at least 2013. A longtime democracy activist and environmental advocate, he was arrested on suspicion of spreading “anti-state propaganda” in July 2022. On April 12, 2023, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment. His trial was closed to the public, and his family was barred from attending.
