In May 2020, one year after he was convicted, a court summoned him to begin his one-year sentence for propaganda and anti-state charges. He faces a two-year ban on media activities. Bahrami, furloughed once for poor health, contracted COVID-19 in Evin Prison and was released in October 2020. He later fled Iran into exile.
