Nay Phone Latt, whose blog had been praised by the BBC for publishing trustworthy news, was arrested in February 2008 and sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison in a closed-door trial without a lawyer for ‘disrupting morality.’ He was released under an amnesty in 2012 and later became a digital rights activist and regional MP.
